Construction will shortly commence on a new spa building and internal remodel at a country residence in Gloucestershire, following planning approval by Forest of Dean District Council. The proposal aims to introduce a contemporary pavilion to a fine period building, creating a new domestic entrance and glazed link in the process. Slender structural elements and a 25m glass wall invites occupants to feel as if they are swimming amongst the trees in this Wye Valley setting. A shallow pitched roof features a glazed spine which runs along the ridge of the roof defining the pool area with a top lit, vaulted space. The design seeks to accomplish simultaneous ambitions – to provide luxurious spa facilities, better resolve a cluster of existing buildings and to create a sun-filled central courtyard.
