Hidden House re-purposes a derelict 19th Century Herefordshire hill barn, incorporating it into a 21st Century rural dwelling where the main living floor is newly carved into the landscape. The result is a home of contrasts where the protective solidity of the original barn wraps four bedrooms and a snug, while the new living space looks out expansively through a wall of glass towards the Black Mountains of Mid Wales.
The building completed in 2021 and now, a year later, the landscape planting is substantially bedded in, revealing Hidden House as it was envisioned. We thought we’d share some scoping shots taken by photographer Simon Maxwell, ahead of shooting days lined up soon.
“No house should ever be on a hill or on anything. It should be of the hill. Belonging to it. Hill and house should live together each the happier for the other.”
Frank Lloyd Wright
